  HAAS GR-510 GANTRY CNC ROUTER 121" 61" 11"

What is the HAAS GR-510 Gantry Router?

CNC routers are computer-controlled machines that are capable of cutting complex two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) shapes with router bits that spin at high speeds. A gantry-style router is constructed with a stationary table and a bridge that spans vertical columns. All gantry routers have three moving axes: X,Y, and Z. The Haas GR-510 is a gantry-style router with travels of 120" x 60" x 10" (xyz) and a powerful 40-taper milling head. The machine comes standard with a 10,000-rpm spindle that features a powerful 15-hp vector drive system. This gives the GR-510 plenty of power to cut aluminum and other metals, as well as the speed necessary to cut wood, plastics and other light materials. Basically, it’s akin to a router on steroids.

CNC Router Procedure:

CNC routers interface to specialized computers that run graphical operating systems. CAD (Computer-Aided Design or Drafting) software is used to read a special file that describes the geometry of the part to be machined. The CAD program outputs a tool path file with information that the controller computer can use to send synchronized, step and direction signals to the servo motor driver. In turn, the motor driver sends signals to the motor, causing it to move in the appropriate direction along a specific axis. The lead screws to which the servo motor is attached move the axes along linear rails.

CNC Router Applications:

The GR-510 Router is especially useful for machining large sheets of material. The large size of the GR-510 Router eliminates the waste of time and materials spent trying to machine large pieces on smaller equipment. It can be used in any industry ranging from food to medical to aerospace. The GR-510 Router has even been credited with increasing surfboard production.

While Micropulse West, Inc. typically machines metal, the GR-510 Router gives us the capability to process a large variety of other materials such as wood and plastic as well.
