CNC SURFACE GRINDING

CNC Surface Grinding Services
Our CNC Surface Grinding services can be used to grind down a surface to fit a specific size or finish. We use the latest in CNC grinding machines in order to precisely size or finish any piece. We can even grind high tolerance parts to a mirror like surface finish while still meeting the projects strict product standards (Flatness, Parallelism & Squareness).
CNC surface grinding removes small amounts of material by using a high-speed abrasive wheel as the cutting tool. The grinding wheel rotates in place, while the workpiece, attached to the machine table, moves in the X-, Y-, and Z-axis. Depending on the part size, the grinding wheel will likely take multiple passes to achieve the desired dimensions.

CNC SURFACE GRINDING APPLICATIONS
CNC Surface grinding is used in many different industries. Materials can be ground down to an exact size to snugly fit into the finished product, as is often seen in the automotive and aerospace industries. Another common use of CNC grinding is die sharpening, as it removes only the necessary material to produce a sharp edge, which is often needed in the medical field.
WHY CHOOSE CNC SURFACE GRINDING
There are a number of different reasons why you might want to use a CNC surface grinder to finish your projects.

Precise Finish
Our Surface grinding machines are able to grind down pieces to incredibly precise measurements.

Set Multiple Variables at Once
A CNC surface grinder can make multiple passes, grind for height, and more all at once. A manual operator would have to do each task one at a time.

Variable Wheel Speeds
Our Surface grinders can handle variable speeds necessary to customize the surface finish on different materials.

Grind an Entire Run Identically
In addition to precisely grinding a single piece, CNC grinders can do entire runs identically. Every piece will be the exact same size and shape. This is incredibly important for large runs.

Error-Free Grinding
It’s easy to grind a piece a little too much or not enough. CNC surface grinding, however, removes all operator error, leaving each piece ground down perfectly.

High Tolerance Surface Grinding
Our Surface Grinders can handle high tolerance materials while maintaining most projects strict quality standards.

Comparing EDM with conventional machining
Manufacturing engineers turn to EDM when milling, turning and grinding aren’t up to the task. It’s as if it’s a binary choice: if machining isn’t possible then chose EDM. The reality is more complex. There’s a significant middle ground where EDM and conventional processes go head-to-head. Yes, the wire EDM cutting rate is lower than…

Thin walls, tight internal radii, tapers, deep blind pockets in hard materials. Sometimes it seems designers are just trying to find the limits of what manufacturing can do. It’s as if they’re hoping manufacturing will say, “Can’t be done.” The thing is, if manufacturing only has access to conventional machining processes they’re probably right. Some…
